2023 Mares' Hurdle Tips: A host of tips for the Grade 1 prize available here

We compile all the Cheltenham tips for the Mares' Hurdle, which looks a stunning renewal as reigning champion Marie's Rock takes on two former Champion Hurdle heroines in the shape of Honeysuckle and Epatante. We have picked out some of the leading trends and statistics for the race, while also picking out the popular naps from a host of racing tipsters, as well as picking our selection for the race...

The Mares' Hurdle has only been run at the Cheltenham Festival since 2008, but it has been won by some of the starlets of the turf with the likes of Quevega, Apple's Jade and Honeysuckle all claiming victory in the event, and the latter of that trio will be back for another crack at the event in 2023. A winner of the 2020 Mares' Hurdle, Honeysuckle returned to Cheltenham in 2021 and 2022 and claimed victory in the Champion Hurdle, but the possibly regressive mare will line up here bidding for a fourth festival win in a row.

Another former Champion Hurdle winner in the shape of Epatante is also lining up here, as she looks to return to winning ways at the track, while last year's heroine Marie's Rock adds yet more depth to a race that is arguably the finest renewal ever run. The trends and statistics are fascinating for the contest and we have picked out some of the more eye-catching ones that may help you in your decision of picking your selection.

Mares' Hurdle Key Trends

  • Six of the last 10 winners have been aged seven years old
  • Three of the last 10 winners have been sent off favourite
  • Eight of the last 10 winners have been trained in Ireland
  • Eight of the last 10 winners had won their previous race before claiming Mares' Hurdle success

In a hugely competitive renewal of the Mares' Hurdle, which is off at 16:10 on Tuesday afternoon, the most tipped runner is the reigning champion Marie's Rock, who is looking emulate the mighty Quevega by winning back-to-back renewals of this prize. While the likes of Honeysuckle and Epatante have attracted some attention from the racing writers, Marie's Rock is by far the most popular with eight of them tipping Nicky Henderson's raider for victory. Five of them - including the likes of Newsboy from the Daily Mirror and Rory Delargy from The Irish Field - have even napped the Seven Barrows inmate.

Beaten one-and-three-quarter lengths in the 2022 Mares' Hurdle, the Gordon Elliott-trained Queens Brook will attempt to go one better this time around and the Cullentra House inmate is the biggest priced tip from our racing writers. Available around 20/1, at the time of writing, Queens Brook is the best bet of Jim Delahunt from the Scottish Sun and that tipster is hoping the eight-year-old can kick on from a fine Grade 3 win at Punchestown last time out, where she got the better of Brandy Love in fine style.

With multiple Cheltenham Festival winners lining up here the Mares' Hurdle is a tremendous renewal and all eyes will be Honeysuckle as she looks to win at a fourth festival on the bounce. However, the reigning Champion Hurdle winner has failed to sparkle with her usual pizzazz this term and she could be worth taking on. Epatante is another former Champion Hurdle queen, but she's been well beaten by Constititution Hill this season and is another on a potential downward spiral.

So, it's the reigning Mares' Hurdle champion Marie's Rock that looks the best bet in this 16:10 event on Tuesday as she was a fabulous winner of this race 12 months ago, and she showed when winning the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham on her return to the track that she's a top class mare and she can storm to glory here.
