2023 World Juniors was one for the history books
The 2023 edition of the World Junior Hockey Championship concluded in Halifax on Jan. 5. The tournament was originally supposed to be hosted in Russia, but support for this crumbled after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Russia was not only not a host, it was also not participating in the tournament. This tournament had a lot of interesting aspects, including the return of relegation round and the presence of NHL prospects. The World Juniors was a very special tournament, especially because of its atmosphere.
Connor Bedard won gold at the World Junior Championship. He is a likely first-overall selection in the NHL draft in June. Adam Fantilli had a good tournament, while Sweden's Leo Carlsson played well. Axel Sandin-Pellika played an effective game for Sweden. The Swedish player is expected to go second overall in this year's draft. It is also a possibility for Adam Fritil to be drafted.
