3 Red Sox Craig Breslow Should Trade After Hiring

Chris Sale is finally entering the final year of his horrendous five-year contract extension, and not a moment too soon. That deal has been a disaster from the moment the ink dried, saddling Boston with an aging, overpaid, injury-prone former ace.

Sale has still been pretty good when healthy, but that hasn't been nearly often enough. He's made just 31 starts over the last four seasons combined, albeit with an 11-7 record, a 3.93 ERA and a 10.8 K/9.

His flashes of brilliance during that time might convince a team to take a chance on the 34-year-old southpaw. If that's the case, Breslow should absolutely ship out Sale, ideally as far away as possible.

The Red Sox definitely aren't re-signing Sale next winter, not after all the money they've already wasted on him. Boston would have to eat some of his $27.5 million salary for 2024, but it would be well worth it to get him off the trouble and not have to worry about his broken-down body anymore.

Even if the Red Sox only get some prospects and some salary relief in return, the trade would be well worth it. That money would be better spent elsewhere, and ideally Sale could bring back some pieces that would still be here beyond 2024.
