Cavaliers vs Pelicans betting trends

Cleveland is one of the league’s top ATS betting teams at 30-24-3. Meanwhile, New Orleans is 27-28-1.

The teams play to a contrasting trend when it comes to totals betting. The Pelicans are 31-25 to the over, while Cleveland is just 25-32.

Those trends align with the Pelicans being 11th in points per game (PPG) offensively and just 15th in PPG allowed.

The Cavaliers are just 25th in PPG scored, and first in PPG allowed on defense.

Cavaliers vs Pelicans prediction

New Orleans will be rested coming into Friday night’s game, having not played since Tuesday at home to Atlanta where they won 116-107. That extends their current winning streak to three games, all of which have come at home. Prior to this run, they had lost ten games in a row. Brandon Ingram led the way with 30 points for New Orleans on Tuesday, followed by CJ McCollum with 21.

On Trade Deadline Day, New Orleans acquired Josh Richardson from San Antonio who is averaging 11.5 (PPG) this season. In exchange, they sent Devonte Graham and four second-round picks to the Spurs.

Cleveland last played on Wednesday at home to Detroit where they thrashed the Pistons 113-85. Cleveland got the win despite Jarrett Allen being their leading scorer with just 20 points and 16 rebounds. But Cleveland’s defense held Detroit to 37 percent field goal shooting and 25 percent from three. The Cavs are now winners of four straight after Wednesday’s win.

These teams last met on January 16 in Cleveland with the Cavs winning 113-103. Despite trailing 81-78 heading into the fourth quarter, Cleveland pulled away in the fourth outscoring the Pels 35-22.

Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen led the Cavs with 30 and 24 points respectively. Garland added 11 assists and Allen 11 rebounds. For the Pels, McCollum led the team with a 25-point game, while Jonas Valanciunas pulled down 13 boards.

Both teams come into Friday night’s game in good form. But the Pelicans will have the home court this time around. At home, the Pels are 20-9, while Cleveland is just 12-16 on the road. The Cavs could also be without Darius Garland (thumb) and Donovan Mitchell (ankle) who both missed Wednesday’s game.

Cavaliers vs Pelicans props and same-game parlay

Here are a few players to target for NBA player props in this Cavaliers vs Pelicans matchup. You can also group them together into a same-game parlay (SGP) for Friday’s matchup to get better odds once the prop and same-game parlay markets open up.

Valanciunas rebounds

Valanciunas finished Tuesday’s game with 14 rebounds and had a rebound prop at DraftKings of 9.5. Prior to that, he had 14 and 13 rebounds. While he finished January with games of 6, 3, and 3 rebounds, that’s a rarity for the Pels’ big man. He averages 9.8 rebounds per game and had double-digit boards in 11/16 games last month. One of those games came against the Cavs when he had 13.

Garland three-pointers

This player prop will rely obviously on Garland being cleared to play on Friday after missing out on Wednesday.

On the season, Garland is shooting 41.5 percent from beyond the arc, but he’s been heating up of late. In the month of February, he’s 61.9 from three and has finished with 5, 4, and 4 three-pointers in recent games.

New Orleans may be one of the top three-point defenses in the league, but Garland had five threes in the earlier matchup in January, going 5-for-10.

Jarrett Allen points prop

If Garland and Mitchell both miss Friday’s game, that knocks out Cleveland’s top two scorers. Allen ranks fourth on the team in PPG at 14.3, right behind Evan Mobley at 15.8. But in the month of February Allen is averaging 19.7 PPG and has finished with 20, 23, 18 and 18 points in those games. Someone will need to pick up the slack offensively for the Cavs and Allen looks to be the guy.
