4.20 Curragh Tips: Rosscarberry to confirm superiority

The last of the four group contests at the Curragh on Saturday will be the Comer Group International Curragh Cup, which will be run at 4.20 and will be contested by 11 runners.

Another chunky prize pot is up for grabs here as the Comer Group International Curragh Cup is worth no less than €90,000 to winning connections. Can the well fancied Emily Dickinson secure those winnings for her team? Or will there be an upset?

Our Betting Tips and Predictions for the 4.20 at Curragh

Ahead of Saturday’s final group race at the Curragh, here are our best betting tips and predictions:

Our Best Prediction: Rosscarberry @ 9/4

Emily Dickinson, for Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien, is of course the hype horse in the race, but she failed to fire at Royal Ascot last time out. This is easier, sure, but she doesn’t look the most straightforward and that run at Ascot wasn’t the first time that she failed to pack a punch. Prior to running in the Gold Cup, she came up short when sent off as the 2/5 favourite over this trip at Leopardstown. Such a performance wouldn’t fill me with confidence as a supporter of hers here.

Instead of siding with the O’Brien runner, Rosscarberry for trainer Paddy Twomey is where my money will be going here. This horse ran a very good race in the Group 1 Yulong Pretty Polly Stakes over two furlongs shorter at this venue recently, running as if the extra two furlongs is just what she needs. She was a solid Group 3 winner at Cork prior to that, beating some decent horses a shade cozily. She also beat Emily Dickinson over this trip last season and can confirm her slight superiority over that rival here.

Our Each Way Prediction: Yashin (each-way) @ 12/1

At bigger odds, for each-way backers, Yashin can run a big race. This horse won a couple of decent handicap contests last season, before stepping up to tackle even stronger handicap fields towards the end of the campaign, finishing fourth (of 16) over a mile and four furlongs at Leopardstown in October.

She showed to be fit and ready to go when winning a Group 3 on seasonal reappearance at that venue in May, getting up late in the day. The step up to one mile and six furlongs certainly helped there and with extra fitness now on her side, she could have even more to give. She looks progressive and isn’t out of this.
