5 weird bets people are making ahead of Super Bowl LVIII

Many people bet on who will win or what the score of the game may be. But there are many unique and weird bets gamblers can make, too.

MACON, Ga. — When Superbowl Sunday rolls around, people willing to test their luck often bet on who will win the big game or who will even win the coin toss.

However, there are many peculiar bets gambling-inclined individuals can make, ranging from the specific to the small to the straight-up weird.

Even as Georgia's legislature makes moves to legalize sports gambling, as of now, the practice is banned here in the Peach State.

With recent developments in Atlanta, 13WMAZ Sports Anchor Connor Hines is talking about the pros and cons of sports betting during Thursday's 13WMAZ News at 11.

But in the nation to our north, Canadians using the website FanDuel have a long list of bets they can make. Many are sports-related; others are anything but.

Here's a look at some of the 5 weirdest things people can bet on during Super Bowl LVIII.

National Anthem length:

In terms of musical offerings during the big game, the halftime show featuring pop superstar Usher is typically the most hyped-up performance.

But before Usher graces the stage, Voice coach Reba McEntire will be belting the Star Spangle Banner for the fans in the stands and the millions at home.

Some viewers, however, will have a little more at stake as McEntire sings.

There is a special bet for the lovers of both football and patriotism alike: how long will the National Anthem be?

On Fan Duel, there are two options, over 90.5 seconds or under 90.5 seconds.

Right now, the bookies have both options being relatively close together with -102 for over 89.5 seconds and -124 for the performance being under 89.5 seconds.

So while the game is typically where people sit on the edge of their seats, those with money on the National Anthem may have a similar experience before kick-off even happens.

Usher's fit check:

Staying on the topic of music, with all eyes on Usher's half-time performance, there are a range of bets FanDuel is offering related to Usher's big set.

Gamblers can bet on the number of songs Usher performs and whether he will debut some new material.

However, some are also making unique bets on what wardrobe Usher will be rocking during his set.

Fan Duel is offering a bet on whether or not Usher will be wearing sunglasses at any point during his first song of the evening. Because sunglasses are pretty common in Usher's wardrobe, the odds on Fan Duel are favoring him rocking his trademark shades.

But gamblers can also put money on how many outfits Usher will wear during his set.

Gamblers can bet on whether Usher will have more than 1.5 outfit changes or fewer than 1.5 outfit changes. For the sake of the bet, Fan Duel specificies that it'll only count the "major outfit changes." That includes changing his pants, shirts and jackets.

Temperature:

How hot will it be during kick-off? Since these bets are from Canada, they are based on the Celicius reading.

Right now, the odds are favoring it being somewhere between 6-10 Celsius 11-15 Celsius, or 42.8F-50F or 51.8F-59F at Las Vegas' Harry Reid Airport.

Taylor Swift:

Like it or not, at the center of this season's story is the pop superstar and girlfriend of Kanas City Chief's player Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift.

With her ardent support of her boyfriend on the field and common cutaways during Chiefs games many gamblers can take their pick at a number of Swift-related bets.

Will the MVP mention Taylor Swift in their speech? All they have to do is say "Taylor/Swift/Taylor Swift" and it be broadcast on Ontario's TV network. Right now, the odds are against the MVP shouting out the swifties.

But there is also attention on what Taylor Swift will be wearing.

Kristin Juszczyk, the wife of 49ers player Kyle Juszczyk, is a fashion designer and she designed a jacket for Taylor Swift that went viral earlier this season. So, the bookies are asking the question: will Taylor wear a custom design from Juszcyk?

They say this bet will be based on an official announcement from either of Taylor or Juszcyk.

The Big Question?

But perhaps the most attention is being paid to the question of whether Kelce will ask the big question: will you marry me? Despite the pair only publically dating since October 2023, Swifties and football fans alike can bet on the question.

Right now, the chances are not favoring the big question being asked after the game, but they note the proposal must be on the field after the game for it to qualify.

Will sports betting come to Georgia?

The Georgia legislature is considering a bill that would legalize sports betting in the Peach State, but still, there are many roadblocks ahead of the legislation.

That includes the issue of constitutionality since legalizing sports betting would require a constitutional amendment.

13WMAZ's Connor Hines breaks down what you need to know about what the introduction of sports betting could mean to sports here in Georgia. Be sure to tune into 13WMAZ at 11 p.m. on Thursday to see what that could mean for sports in Georgia.
