Canada are ranked 41st in the world ahead of the World Cup. They play Belgium first in their group. Belgium is ranked No 2 in world and is on a two-game losing streak.

Belgium were beaten by Egypt in an international friendly on November 18. Canada played two pre-tournament friendlies against Bahrain and Japan, drawing the first 2-2 and winning the second 2.1. They conceded at least 1.0 goals in their last three games. Belgium will start with a win and prevent an upset at the hands of Canada.
