However, the former world No. 1 doubles player was certain that the ‘Wimbledon‘ baton would be passed down to the Swiss Maestro.

And, his prediction eventually turned out to be true when the 41-year-old tennis legend marked his 8th triumph on the Centre Court, breaking Sampras’ previous record of 7 singles titles. Now, after almost two decades, the Indian tennis star has once again come forward to make a bold prediction about the 20-year-old sensation,  Carlos Alcaraz.

In a recent interview with THE WEEK, the former world No. 1 doubles player reminisced about his past predictions about some of the tennis greats. Having already predicted correctly about Federer, the Indian tennis legend then moved his attention to another prominent figure, Novak Djokovic who is all labeled as the ‘GOAT’.

Leander Paes was all praises for the Serb, as he talked about his French Open triumph over the young tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz. He said, “One month ago, he was trying to better Rafael Nadal’s record at the French Open.”

However, in the process, the Indian ATP star didn’t hold himself back from issuing a bold prediction about Djokovic’s opponent, Alcaraz.  He believes that the young Spaniard is going to beat all the records of three ‘GOATs’. While reemphasizing the Serb’s victory in Paris, he said, “And he did it against a 20-year-old who, I believe, barring injury, is going to beat all these three GOATs.”

Apart from Federer and Alcaraz, the doubles tennis legend previously made another bold prediction about Rafael Nadal.

In the interview, the 50-year-old tennis star also reminisced about the era when the Spanish tennis star was a mere debutant in the men’s circuit. However, after playing against him in Dubai, Leander Paes issued another bold prediction that Nadal is going to beat his arch-rival, Federer’s Grand Slam record(20). The doubles tennis star said, “He’s going to beat Roger Federer’s record.”

It was another prediction from Paes that turned out to be true, as the Spaniard clinched his 22nd major title in the previous season.
