Aim high: Play these 4 superfecta keys on Saturday

There is no probable payout pool for superfectas. The heavily bet upon runners tend to be over bet in the superintending pool. A 10 cent superinfinite is a great leveraged wager if you select one runner you believe will land in any one of the top four positions.

The superfecta key strategy requires you to ensure that your keyed horse finishes in one of the top four positions. To maximize return, I am looking for three conditions to create potential for a high payoff.

The conditions are:Betting interests of at least nine entries but not more than 12, the ability to confidently key a horse that is not an odds-on or a heavily bet favorite, and field with runners ignored in the pool that would be at very high odds at post time but could be in top four randomly.

The Gio Ponti Stakes is a 1 1/16-mile outer turf race exclusively for 3-year-olds. A field of nine has been entered, including two each by Todd Pletcher and Danny Gargan. Eight of the nine runners exit turf races. Churchtown, Ohtwoohthreefive, Riot House, Steady On and Grand Sonata are the main contenders. The field has combined for an in the money rate of three of every five starts overall and one of two at the distance. It is expected to be slow with the advantage to runners on or just off the lead.

A field of nine allowance runners 3-year-olds and up will be battling each other in this 1 1/4-mile dirt marathon. Two of the runners are trained by Todd Pletcher. Eight of them exit dirt races. The final runner is the final one from a turf race at Keeneland. No. 5 Ten Gauge is coming off his maiden win last time out in the slop. No 4 O P Firecracker has run poorly in his prior two starts. Mark Casse trained No 3 Strong Quality has a decided early pace advantage. War Campaign is a grinder who should be in second half of field for most of race.

There is a field of 10 for the mile on the dirt for 3-year-olds and up-state-bred optional claimers. Seven of the runners exit dirt races. The field has combined for an in-money rate of one in two starts overall and at the distance. No. 2 Beauregard has been in the top three six of eight tries at this distance and comes out of three consecutive turf or off turf efforts. No 4 Half Again has some tactical speed and should be a factor throughout. Joe Foster is now the trainer of No 6 Silver Galaxy.

Scott's Scoundrel Stakes is a state-bred event for 3-year-olds and up contested on the dirt at a mile and seventy yards. A nearly full field of 11 has been entered, including two trained by Bret Calhoun. Six runners have last outs on dirt - five at Delta Downs and one at Churchill. The remaining five runners exit turf races - two each at Evangeline Downs, Louisiana Downs or one from Indiana Downs. The field has combined for an in the money rate of three out of five races overall and at the distance. Sunday Breeze is the wild card in this race.
