Alpinista posts sparkling win in Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe
Alpinista won the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday. Frankel mare is eligible for the Japan Cup in Tokyo on November 27. She could also be invited to the Longines Hong Kong Cup. The weekend's racing action also included Group 1 and Grade 1 contests in England, Japan and Australia. The Arc was the crown jewel in a weekend of racing so bright that even the gloomy, rainy Paris weather couldn't dim. Winners earned five "Win and You're In" spots to next month's Breeders' Cup World Championships at Keeneland.
Belbec, Blue Rose Cen and Place Du Carrousel won at Longchamp on Sunday. They earned "Win and You're In" spots in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf and Juveniles Fillies Turfing. Kinross won the Prix Foret. The Platinum Queen won by a neck in Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Long champ Longines. The race was won in 1,400 meters by Frankie Dettori's horse Malavath. It was the third straight win for Kincross.
Kyprios won the Group 1 Prix du Cadran by 20 lengths. Moore rode Al Qareem home to a nose victory in the 3,000-meters Prix Chaudenay for 3-year-olds. Sea La Rosa won Grade I Prix de Royallieu by 1 length. Anmaat got a short lead heading for home in Prix Dollar. Erevann won Prix Daniel Wildenstein by a head. Christophe Soumillon is suspended for two months after the Longchamp meeting for an earlier infraction.
Gendarme won the 1,200-meter race at Nakayama Racecourse in Japan. It was his first win at the Grade 1 level. Naran Huleg came third. He was the upset winner of the Takamatsunomiya Kinen.
Fonteyn won the Group 1 Royal Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket by 3/4 length. Homeless Songs finished seventh and Saffron Beach eighth.
No Compromise won the Group 1 Furphy Metropolitan at Royal Randwick by a nose over Le Don De Vie. Ellsberg and Top Ranked finished in a dead heat in the TAB Epsom. Cascadian won a Group 2 Fujitsu General Hill Stakes. Smokin' Romans won at Flemington's Tab Turnbull Stake. The turf was good at the Flemmington on Saturday.
