The 22-year-old Russian was a budding star and Carolina’s top wing. He had 23 goals and 32 assists for 55 points before the injury.

His absence could impact both the race for the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference playoffs. Only the Bruins had a better record. Carolina entered Tuesday with 94 points and was tied with the New Jersey Devils for first place in the Metro.
