Another milestone for the defiant ex-Sundowns goal-getter

A former Mamelodi Sundowns goal-getter has finished the 2023 Chinese Super League season, one goal shy of the coveted golden boot after scoring 18 goals.

The 36-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns goal-getter missed the accolade which was claimed by his teammate Leonardo Nascimento.

Together, Nascimento and Nyasha Mushekwi, contributed 37 goals as Zhejiang FC ended the season in third position.

Shanghai Port walked away with the league title while Shandong Taishan earned second position.

They both scored in their 2023 Chinese Super League final match when they beat Shanghai Shenhua 2-1.

Overall, Mushekwi scored 18 goals, the same number of goals he scored last season in the Chinese league.

He failed to break his 2021 record when he was the golden boot winner with 23 goals in 32 matches. Mushekwi was tied on 18 goals along with Wu Lei of Shanghai Port.

The former PSL star has defied the odds of age and will hope to excel as they shift focus to the Asian Champions League.

He has already scored one goal in the three games he has played in the Asian Champions League

In addition, Mushekwi continues to defy the odds of age at the club as he is the all-time leading goal-scorer.

He broke the record in 2022 as it was previously been held by former SuperSport United forward Dino Ndlovu.

Ndlovu scored 42 goals during his two year stint at the club before leaving for green pastures. And Mushekwi has now managed to score 55 goals for the club.

Intrestingly, this year Mushekwi has been better than former Chelsea star Oscar who scored nine goals for Shanghai Port.

He is also ahead of former Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who scored 11 goals for Shandong Taishan.
