Arc owners drop from second to third in Sunday Times Rich List

Simon and David Reuben, billionaire owners of Arc

The billionaire owners of Arena Racing Company, David and Simon Reuben, have dropped from second to third in the new Sunday Times Rich List.

The brothers, who own 16 racecourses and four greyhound tracks under the Arc banner, increased their net worth by £800 million in the last year to £22.265 billion.

The property tycoons, who also teamed up with Saudi investors and the British financier Amanda Staveley and own a ten per cent stake in football team Newcastle United, were not the only prominent names from the world of horseracing to make the top ten, with owner-breeder and Jockey Club member Kirsten Rausing appearing in ninth with her brother Jorn.

The Rausings' £12bn fortune, which stems from inheriting one-third each of their grandfather's Switzerland-based packaging group Tetra Laval as well as other investments, has dropped by £1bn from last year, when they occupied seventh on the list.

The bookmaking industry was well represented in the 2022 edition of the list, with Denise, John and Peter Coates of Stoke-based gambling giant bet365 coming in 17th with an increase of £189m over the last year taking their net worth to £8.637bn.

Ian and Richard Livingstone, the London property magnates whose net worth skyrocketed with their investment in Swedish-based online gambling outfit Evolution Gaming, dropped from 27 to 31 on the list with a £400m decrease to their £5.7bn.

Other prominent figures involved in the world of racing or gambling include owner/breeders Lord Bamford and family, whose £4.32bn fortune decreased by £275m as they dropped from 38 to 42 on the list.

Teddy Sagi, the founder of gambling software company Playtech, is a few places lower in joint-46th having increased his net worth by £162m to £4bn, one spot ahead of PokerStars co-founder Mark Scheinberg, whose £3.926bn fortune rose by £407m in the last year.

Fred and Peter Done rose to 120 on the list, with the owners of Betfred increasing their net worth by £241m to £1.476bn.

Patricia Thompson and family of Cheveley Park fame stayed at £869m, which resulted in a drop from 189 to 197 in the list, while Ruth Parasol and family dropped from 208 to 211 following no change to their £780m fortune generated by Austrian betting brand Bwin, which now comes under the Entain banner.
