Ahead of the Mauricio Lara vs Leigh Wood 2 super-fight this weekend, boxing fans want to know if there are any world title belts on the line. Read on to find out everything you need to know about the Lara vs Wood 2 fight, including whether the winner will receive a belt or not.

Are There Any Belts On The Line In The Lara vs Wood 2 Fight?

One of the biggest fights of the year goes down this weekend as Mauricio Lara and Leigh Wood go head-to-head in their world featherweight rematch. The bout headlines this stellar card at the Manchester Arena, with the main event expected to be at approximately 10.30pm for UK boxing fans.

Lara vs Wood 2 is one of three world title fights on May 27th in the UK, meaning the WBA World Featherweight Title is on the line for Lara vs Wood 2. This means that the winner of the Lara vs Wood rematch will leave the ring with a world title belt around their waist.

This is Leigh Wood’s fourth straight fight for a world title. The Nottingham man won the WBA World Featherweight Title back in 2021 when knocking out Can Xu in the 12th round. He then defended his belt successfully against Michael Conlan, before losing it last time out against Saturday’s opponent.

For the reigning champion, this is the first defence of his world crown. He of course won the belt last time out, knocking ‘Leigh-Thal’ out in the seventh round of their contest back in February. This means that this Saturday with be Lara’s second world title fight, meanwhile it is Wood’s fourth.

The winner of this fight at the weekend will have bragging rights and will solidify himself as one of the best fighters in the featherweight division. Should Leigh Wood win, he will become a two-time world champion. Should it be ‘Bronco’ who is victorious, he could well solidify himself as the best 126-pound fighter on the planet.

Depending on who wins Lara vs Wood 2, there could be some enormous fights on the horizon for both fighters. If it is Leigh Wood who wins, he will likely either have a trilogy with Lara before the end of the year. Perhaps an all British fight with Josh Warrington could also be an option, or even a rematch with Michael Conlan, depending on how he fairs in his world title bid on Saturday.

On the other hand, if Mauricio Lara wins this weekend, he could have some absolutely massive fights on the horizon. Should he claim his 27th professional boxing win, he could be in line for some huge unifications in the next 12 to 18 months. A fight with the winner of Lopez vs Conlan could be a huge fight.

Not only that but fights against the likes of Brandon Figueroa, Robeisy Ramirez, Mark Magsayo or Rey Vargas could be next for ‘Bronco’. Huge ramifications for the featherweight division on May 27th from two different venues in the UK!

As of today for the main event, Mauricio ‘Bronco’ Lara is the 1/3 favourite to win the fight with the best UK sports betting sites. However, a lot of people will fancy the chances of Leigh Wood as the betting underdog in this fight. He is currently priced around 12/5 with the best online gambling sites to become a two-time world champion this weekend at the Manchester Arena.

What a fight we have on our hands from Manchester on Saturday night. Finger’s crossed the fight lives up to all the hype!
