Arizona Diamondbacks vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction 7-9-23 MLB Picks

The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Sunday in MLB action from Chase Field. This will be the finale in a three-game weekend series. The Diamondbacks took a four-run win in the opener, then on Saturday Arizona kept it up with a close victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates were out-hit 12-6 and had two errors in the Friday opener of this set, eventually falling 7-3. On Saturday Pittsburgh couldn’t get much going offensively on four team hits. Starter Mitch Keller went 7.0 clean frames with one hit and five walks.

For the starter job in the Sunday game the Pirates didn’t immediately announce a name.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Over on the Arizona side, they posted four runs in the third inning and had 12 hits in the Friday game. In game two the Diamondbacks scored twice in the bottom of the 10th in a comeback win 3-2. Kyle Nelson opened the game and went 1.1 innings with no hits, no walks, no earned and three Ks.

It’ll be Zach Davies in the start for the Diamondbacks on Sunday. Across his 10 starts so far Davies is 1-4 with a 6.52 ERA and 39 Ks in 48.1 innings. Davies is 59-57 with a 4.25 ERA in 192 career starts.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with Arizona. Also probably not touching it, though. Davies has a couple of rough starts in his most recent trio. In that pair, Davies is 0-1 with 10 earned in 9.2 combined innings. He pitched 7.0 shutout frames versus the Rays in the other start of those three, however. On Saturday the Diamondbacks took advantage of some timely hitting late, but it took the team a while to get going. Alek Thomas posted a homer and two RBI while Corbin Carroll walked it off. Arizona will likely need to hit the scoreboard earlier here, but I still think they’re in line for the sweep.
