Arizona vs Oklahoma Football Prediction, Odds & Picks

Two seasons ago, Arizona won only one game under first-year head coach Jedd Fisch. But with a win over Oklahoma in tonight’s Alamo Bowl in San Antonio (9:15 pm ET, ESPN), the Wildcats will mark their return to prominence with a tenth win.

After going 1-11 in 2021, the Wildcats finished 5-7 last year, their most wins since 2018.

Now, they are not only back in a bowl game, but they are looking at potentially finishing in the top ten in the final polls depending on how results shake out.

Arizona (9-3, 7-2 Pac-12) suffered one-score losses to Mississippi State (overtime), Washington, and USC (three overtimes) in a 3-3 start to the season.

But led by freshman quarterback Noah Fifita, who took over as the starter in the fifth game of the season, the Wildcats won their final six games to finish third in the Pac-12 standings behind Washington and Oregon.

Next year, Arizona will be in the Big 12, which will be the former home of their Alamo Bowl opposition. Oklahoma has been a force in the Big 12 over the last two-plus decades, and tonight will be their final football game as a member of the conference before their move to the SEC.

This is, of course, not the bowl that the Sooners would have wanted to be in. They harbored Big 12 title and College Football Playoff aspirations this season, but back-to-back losses at Kansas and Oklahoma State to end October and begin November did them in.

A big year for Dillon Gabriel helped the Sooners (10-2, 7-2 Big 12) bounce back from last year’s 6-7 season, but with Gabriel now an Oregon Duck, the reins are in the hands of freshman Jackson Arnold, who will take the spotlight tonight as he makes his first career start.

Arizona vs Oklahoma Prediction and Picks

Prediction: Arizona to win

Fifita could not have been much better after taking over for Jayden de Laura, completing 72.8% of his passes, averaging 305.8 passing yards per game, and tossing 23 touchdown passes (with only five interceptions).

To close out the regular season, he torched rival Arizona State for 527 yards and five touchdowns in Arizona’s biggest Territorial Cup win since a 54-14 win in 1954.

Fifita should have another big game tonight against Oklahoma, especially because Arizona isn’t dealing with the opt-out issues on offense that a number of other teams have.

In addition to Fifita being a redshirt freshman, Arizona’s leading rusher (Jonah Coleman: 851 rushing yards, 6.9 yards per carry, 5 TD) and receiver (Tetairoa McMillan: 80 catches, 1,242 yards, 10 TD) are both sophomores.

This is a tough spot to make your first career start, but I don’t think Arnold will struggle. In fact, I think Oklahoma will be able to move the ball and put some points on the board. But Arizona’s offense will prove to be too much for an Oklahoma defense that had a lot of struggles this season, and I expect the Wildcats to finish with a flourish and record the program’s fourth ten-win season.

Picks: Arizona -2.5 & Arizona Team Total Over 30.5 Points (Both Lines at BetOnline – Bet These Plays & Get a 100% Bonus on Your First Cryptocurrency Deposit)

Bonus Prop Pick: Gavin Sawchuk Over 92.5 Rushing Yards (-115 at Bovada – Bet These Plays & Get a 75% Welcome Bonus If Your First Deposit Is Via Crypto)

Arizona was decent against the run this season, allowing an average of just 3.4 yards per attempt. But Sawchuk finished the season with four consecutive 100-yard games, including 130 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries in the season finale against TCU.

With plenty of touches likely to come his way to help alleviate the pressure on Arnold to win the game with his arm, I really like this play.
