Arsenal vs PSV preview

Arsenal are back in the big time! After an outstanding run of 19 successive qualifications for the elite continental competition, the Gunners have been absent since the 2016-17 season.

But last year's second-place finish ensured a return to UEFA's top competition and they'll fancy their chances of going deep into the knockout stages.

First though, they'll need to navigate their way through Group B, and they start against somewhat familiar foes in PSV Eindhoven. The pair were drawn together in last year's Europa League with both sides claiming a win on home turf and Arsenal topping the group by two points.

The Gunners are 4/11 favourites to collect maximum points, and it's not too hard to see why given their excellent start to the season. Mikel Arteta's side are unbeaten and have claimed four wins from five, including a mature 1-0 win over Everton on Sunday.

But PSV shouldn't be discounted.

The Dutch heavyweights are a perfect four from four in the Eredivisie, scoring 13 and conceding just once and thumped Rangers 5-1 in qualification.

Neither side will die wondering on Wednesday. All but ONE of PSV's last eight competitive matches have produced more than 3.5 goals with 33 goals scored in total.

It's a similar story for Arsenal. Their first three home league games of the season have produced 11 goals with Arteta's side failing to keep a single clean sheet against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest or Fulham.

Jesus delivers

Gabriel Jesus is somewhat of a European specialist, as it happens.

The Brazilian centre-forward is expected to feature in the starting XI, spearheading the Arsenal attack in a match that should feature a fair few goals.

The 26-year-old has played a total of 38 Champions League matches in his career (all for Manchester City) and returned a whopping 20 goals and five assists.

Assist king

Leandro Trossard certainly made the most of his playing time on Sunday, scoring the winner against Everton after Gabriel Martinelli hobbled off with a hamstring injury.

And he's expected to keep his place on Wednesday with Jesus playing through the middle and Bukayo Saka on the right.

Trossard has provided 10 assists in 26 games for Arsenal, and has created six chances in just 140 minutes of league action this term - one more than Odegaard in 299 less minutes.
