Arsene Wenger now makes Premier League title prediction that will worry Arsenal fans

Legendary former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Tottenham can challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are bitter local rivals. The fanbase of each club would hate to see the other achieve a title triumph.

Spurs fans will have celebrated last season when the Gunners’ title push faltered late on.

Now, both clubs will be hoping to mount a serious challenge this time around. Mikel Arteta knows that his side have what it takes to go toe to toe with reigning champions Manchester City. Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham squad have made a superb start to the season and currently sit at the top of the Premier League table.

Whilst Spurs weren’t favourites to mount a challenge this time around, Arsene Wenger is convinced that they need to be taken seriously.

Speaking on beIN Sports, the Frenchman said, “I like always to say what I feel, really. Deeply, I believe Tottenham will be one of the contenders for the league.”

Arsenal still have one advantage over Tottenham

It will have given Wenger no pleasure to make such a statement, and will likely concern many Arsenal fans who will be desperately hoping for Spurs’ season to falter sooner rather than later.

The idea of Arsenal and Spurs being locked together in a title fight during the latter stages of the campaign is anxiety-inducing. It is exactly the sort of challenge that Arteta would welcome, though. He would see it as the kind of battle that his side ought to thrive on.

This Arsenal squad will have learned a great deal from their shortcomings last season. They now know what it means to be locked in a title fight. They have experienced the pressures and strains that come with it. They are familiar with spotlight that it casts on them and the club.

Tottenham haven’t gone through that process before, which could well prove to be their undoing. Arsenal fans will certainly hope that that is the case.
