Auburn vs Cal Prediction

The Auburn Tigers and Cal Golden Bears face off on Tuesday in a Week 2 College Football showdown at California Memorial Stadium.

Jadyn Ott Giving Bulletin Board Material

Most coaches don’t want their players to give opponents anything to post on the bulletin board, but evidently, Jadyn Ott didn’t get that memo. The Golden Bears starting running back said that the film doesn’t match the Auburn brand. There is no doubt Auburn players heard that, and will try to be proving him wrong. In the first game of the season the Golden Bears faced off against North Texas and they were able to secure the 58-21 victory. The offense was impressive, but the defense didn’t give up any points in the second half, and that might have been the most impressive part of the game. Ben Finley completed 24 of his 34 passes for 279 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Ott had a huge game on the ground running 20 times for 188 yards and two touchdowns.

Auburn Won Big, But How Good are They?

Auburn faced off against UMass in the first game, and it was basically over from the opening kickoff. The offense put up 59 points against the Minutemen while the defense gave u ponly 14 points. Under center for Auburn is Payton Thorne and he finished with 141 yards and a touchdown. On the ground it was mostly balanced attack with six players finishing with at leasst 33 points. Robby Ashford rushed nine times for 51 yards and three touchdowns. The offense was good, but they are going to need Thorne to play even better, and the defense is going to need to step up.

Shane’s Free Pick

Ott might have given the talking points for Auburn, but I think he’s going to live up to his trash talk. North Texas couldn’t stop Ott, and although Auburn does have a better defense, they are going to really struggle in this game to slow him down. I am also not sold on Thorne under center for Auburn, and I think the Tigers could have found someone better in the transfer portal. Cal is getting the points, and I will take it to be safe, but I believe the Golden Bears can win this game outright. Back California getting the points.
