The Republic of Ireland face hosts Australia in their opening World Cup game this week.

Vera Puaw's side come into the the match as underdogs and they'll be hoping that Denise O’Sullivan is fit enough to start the clash in Sydney.

The midfielder was taken to hospital after Ireland's friendly with Colombia last Friday was abandoned after 20 minutes due to what the FAI later described in a statement as an “overly physical” contest.

An initial scan revealed the North Carolina Courage captain had not suffered any fractures, but she is in a fitness race to be fit for the opening game.

The match kicks off at 11am Irish time and 8pm local time in Sydney.

RTE Two will show the match live following the earlier clash of New Zealand and Norway in Auckland.

Their World Cup coverage begins at 7.30am.
