The new season of the Australian A-League gets underway this weekend. The season starts on Friday, October 7 with the curtain raiser between the reigning champions Western United and Melbourne City. Sydney FC and Merendiview Victory meet in the 29th edition of Big Blue Derby on October 29.

Melbourne City and Western United are playing in the Grand Final. Last season's Grand final was won by Western U. Melbourne City have signed a number of players in recent months. Western udn won't have a busy offseason, but most of their players are still on the roster.

Macarthur FC start their third A-League season with a trip to Queensland to play Brisbane Roar. Last weekend, Macar Thurth FC won the Australia Cup. Brisbane won 3-1 in the last time they played in Brisbane.

Central Coast Mariners won 27 points at home last season. They beat Newcastle Jets 2-0. The team won the Australia Cup last year.

Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory are the most successful Australian soccer teams with nine A-League titles between them. Melbourne City had the best record in the regular season in 2022-23 but didn't do well in playoffs. Sydney FC has spent a lot of money during the offseason on signings, capturing signatures of players like Joe Lolley and Robert Mak.

Wellington Phoenix and Adelaide United play each other in the first match of the Australian A League. The game is played in New Zealand. Adelaide finished the regular season with six straight wins. They were knocked out by Melbourne City in two games in playoffs. Wellington lost in quarterfinals of Australia Cup in August.

WS Wanderers won the last season's A-League match against Perth Glory. Perth finished bottom last year. WS Wanders collected nine points more than Perth last time.
