Away From Home, The Athletic’s podcast series following Shakhtar Donetsk through the war
The series follows the lives of the Shakhtar Donetsk players displaced by the war in Ukraine and their supporters who have fled their homes. It also offers a glimpse behind the curtain at training sessions, tactics meetings and team talks. It questions whether Shaktar will ever return to their home city. The series also shines a closer light on FIFA and its president Gianni Infantino. They hope it will be accessible to people interested in general news, global affairs and football. and sports fans. In between, we have seen exhilarating sporting moments, the devastating pace and finishing of Mykhaylo Mudryk, a 21-year-old Ukrainian winger destined for the summit of European game, and the masterclass of man-management by head coach Igor Jovicevic.
The first three episodes of Away From Home will be available on November 7th. The final episode will include a conversation between Joey D’Urso, Abi Paterson and myself about the making of the documentary.
