Baltimore Bucko opens Saratoga steeplechase action with G1 A.P. Smithwick Memorial win
Buttonwood Farm's Baltimore Bucko won the Grade 1, $150,000 A.P. Smithwick Memorial at Saratoga Race Course. Keri Brion's French Light finished second, while Gibralfaro came third. It was the first steeplechase race of the 40-day summer meet at the Sar atoga. It marked French light's first race since April when running ninth in a two-mile race in Ireland. Brions saddled fifth-place finisher Galway Kid. Thomas Garner won a Grade One at saratogas for the third consecutive year.
