Baltimore Orioles at Pittsburgh Pirates Invalid Date

The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Baltimore Orioles for a Grapefruit League Spring Training game at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday at LECOM Park in Bradenton, Florida. Rich Hill is the scheduled starter for the Pirates. Baltimore had yet to name a starter Monday evening.

Pittsburgh is the 12th big-league club Hill, a 43-year-old lefthander, has pitched for. He doesn’t show any signs of slowing down despite entering his 19th season. Last season with the Red Sox, Hill made 26 starts and went 8-7 with a respectable 4.27 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. He struck out 109 batters and walked 37 in 124.1 innings. This will be Hill’s third start this spring. He has thrown five innings with a 1.80 ERA and 1.00 WHIP and struck out four batters.

Baltimore won at home and lost on the road Monday. The Orioles fell, 6-5, against the Braves and beat the Tigers, 11-7.  Kyle Gibson was the winner against the Tigers after starting and going four innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out two batters. Franchy Cordero, Adam Frazier, Austin Hays, Colton Cowser, Hudson Haskin and Jacob Teter all hit home runs for Baltimore.

Pittsburgh lost to Atlanta, 11-3, at home Sunday. Reliver Angel Perdomo took the loss. Mitch Keller started and went four innings. He allowed three hits and two runs in four innings pitched. The Pirates had just four hits in the game. The three runs came off homers. Bryan Reynolds hit a solo shot in the fourth inning while Jack Suwinski hit a two-run shot in the fifth.

Baltimore is 12th in the Grapefruit League standings at 7-9. The Pirates are two spots lower, a game from last place, with a record of 4-10. The Orioles have scored 100 runs and given up 105. Pittsburgh has scored 70 and allowed 97. We like the Pirates to win at home with Hill on the mound. Final Score Prediction, Pittsburgh Pirates win 6-4.
