Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Preview
If we look past the fact that Barca is already out of all European competitions, it’s been a rather impressive campaign for them. In Spain, Xavi’s side has looked rather dominant, tasting defeat just twice and collecting 73 points from 29 games.
Perhaps the most eye-catching part is their superior goal difference. They’ve scored 53 times and conceded just nine, which is absolutely stellar. This backline is rock solid on a weekly basis.
Oh, and Barcelona is unbeaten at home in league action, posting an 11-3-0 record. That’s certainly a good sign ahead of Sunday’s encounter, but the club needs three points, not another draw. The attack needs to get back in the groove.
Atletico is in fine form at the moment, currently enjoying an 11-game unbeaten run. Their last defeat was in the Copa del Rey on January 26th to Real Madrid. With six wins in a row since the beginning of March, Diego Simeone’s men have allowed just three goals while smashing the back of the net 15 times.
Last weekend, Antoine Griezmann looked like his former self against Almeria, bagging a first-half brace to propel Atleti to a huge three points. They’re currently nipping at the heels of Real, sitting just two points behind them in third. Champions League football is almost a certainty for next season, but finishing above their Madrid rivals would definitely be considered a huge accomplishment.

Barca is still missing a few key players, but there is the possibility that Frenkie de Jong, Ousmane Dembele, and Pedri could be in the squad here. That being said, it’s unlikely they start. As for Atleti, Marcos Llorente and Geoffrey Kondogbia are sidelined due to suspension, while Memphis Depay is still injured. Reinildo is of course out for the season.
Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Prediction
Atletico is playing far too well lately and tends to always turn up on the road, going 9-3-2, a better record than on home soil in fact. Barca is great at Camp Nou as well though, which is why I’m eyeing a low-scoring draw Sunday.
