Barcelona vs. Real Valladolid prediction, odds: La Liga pick

The must-win tax is a real thing in sports betting, and it probably rears its head in European soccer

Because most races are already decided by the end of the season in Europe’s biggest leagues, there are a lot of teams that are “on the beach” as we head down the stretch.

One team that fits the “on the beach” narrative is Barcelona.

The Catalan giants have already wrapped up the title in La Liga and face the prospect of playing three meaningless games between now and June 4 before the season ends.

One of those matches takes place on Tuesday afternoon when Barca travels to Real Valladolid.

While Barcelona has nothing left to gain from this season, Valladolid has everything left to play for.

The White and Violets are currently in a relegation spot, but they have the same amount of points as 17th-place Getafe, who have the better goal difference.

This is a must-win spot for Valladolid at home, even if it means beating Barcelona.

But just because one team has its back against the wall while the other is on the beach doesn’t mean that it’s a sure thing that the more desperate team will win.

In fact, the betting market often overrates situations like the one we’ll see on Tuesday at Estadio Jose Zorrilla.

No matter the stakes, Barcelona are miles better than Valladolid, and getting the soon-to-be-anointed champions at +110 seems like a bit of a gift.
