Bristol Motor Speedway

Bristol, TN

NASCAR goes back to Bristol, Tennessee and its famous short track for the Bass Pro Shops Night Race. This is one of the most popular races on the schedule with short track action and high contact. In addition, we're the heart of the playoff race where tensions run high so be on the lookout for some exciting racing. The last time NASCAR visited Thunder Valley was the eighth race of the season and there have been a lot of things that have happened since. We saw Martin Truex Jr dominate for the most part with Denny Hamlin and William Byron on his tail, We've seen surprise winners like Shane van Gisbergen, who is a non-NASCAR regular, and Michael McDowell winning the Indy Grand Prix circuit. There was also Chris Buescher upsetting the field at Daytona and getting an additional two wins on the season. All that said, there have been a lot of things happening since the first time NASCAR visited Bristol this season.

This will be a different race than we've seen at Bristol in the past and the reason behind that is we're no longer racing the regular season schedule. Instead, it makes up one of the races in the first segment of the playoffs. This is the third race of the Chase and will be the last chance for drivers to get in the win column before moving on to the Round of 12. To move on, a driver just needs to win, or be above the cut line. Tensions will be high in this 500-lap race and the pressure will allow us to find out who is ready to rise to the occasion.

Hollywood Casino 400 Recap

Tyler Reddick was able to get a win last weekend and cement his place in the next round of the playoffs. The driver who happened to lose the lead right at the end of the race to Reddick was the owner of Reddick's team, Denny Hamlin. Hamlin was looking as if he would easily win this one while leading for 63 laps on the day. This was until Chris Buescher blew a tire and caused the caution flag. It was enough of a break to allow Reddick to surge in front after the restart and win by just 0.327 seconds. It was good for Hamlin's team, but not for the driver himself, who is right on the cusp of making the next round. This weekend’s race will be extremely important for a lot of drivers if they want to move on to the next round.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

As we sit, Kyle Larson still leads the pack with 23 points and a win. Tyler Reddick is next with Denny Hamlin, William Byron and Brad Keselowski right behind. Martin Truex Jr is the first driver out and sits in the 13th spot, so he'll need to have a good race if he wants to continue in the hunt.
