Club Brugge was excellent in the group stage to reach the round of 16 in stunning fashion. However, they will need to renew that faith in Portugal on Tuesday if they hope to reach the quarterfinals.

Benfica could easily be one of the dark horses for Champions League success this term, as they have already seen off PSG in the group stages to finish top of the standings. They took a firm step toward the quarterfinals a few weeks ago, as they were extremely professional when picking up a 2-0 away win against Club Brugge.

Both efforts were netted in the second period, with Joao Mario and David Neres scoring the goals. Benfica’s record against Belgian opposition is exceptionally strong, as they have won their previous six at the Estadio da Luz. Meanwhile, they are chasing a fourth straight Champions League win for the first time since 1990 on Tuesday.

Club Brugge was excellent over their opening three matches in the Champions League this season. Over that period, they claimed a 4-0 win over FC Porto in Portugal. However, they have now gone four without a win in the competition, and the size of their challenge on Tuesday is massive.

Only one team from the previous 45 has managed to progress after losing their opening home leg 2-0 in Champions League history. Brugge also comes into this game after losing five of their previous seven on the road in the Champions League. Scott Parker’s side was also easily beaten on the road in their previous match against Oostende in the Pro League.

We can’t see Club Brugge picking up the miracle win that they need on Tuesday. Instead, we expect Benfica to maintain their strong home form in the competition with a comfortable victory over the Belgian side.
