Best golf bets and expert advice for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and LIV Golf Mayakoba

The PGA Tour season ramps up a gear this week with the second signature event of the campaign, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am which takes place primarily at Pebble Beach Golf Links, California, while it's also the beginning of the 2024 LIV Golf season at El Camaleon in Mayakoba, Mexico.

We have looked at both tournaments and picked out two to follow in each event.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am: Jordan Spieth to win & each-way @ 16/1

The Pebble Beach Pro-Am has struggled to attract star quality in recent seasons but its newly acquired status as a signature event means that Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, among others, are making a rare appearance in this famous old tournament.

The 80-man field rotates around Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill over the opening two rounds before the weekend action takes place solely at Pebble.

While several of the big guns are playing out of necessity, Jordan Spieth always tees it up in this event and the Texan's love for this California layout can shine through this week.

Spieth won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2017 and has five further top-five finishes in the event on his CV. He putted superbly when finishing third at The Sentry last time out and a similar effort should allow him to reach the sort of low score which usually prevails in this event.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am: Max Homa to win & each-way @ 16/1

Max Homa has played his best golf in his native California, winning four PGA Tour titles in the Golden State, and he can make an impact on his first Pebble Beach appearance since 2021 having finished no worse than 14th in his last ten worldwide tournaments.

Homa, a winner in South Africa in November, is yet to play Pebble as a member of the world's elite but this week he returns ranked seventh in the world and bristling with confidence. Expect a bold bid on a track which plays to his strengths - sharp putting and superb iron-play.

LIV Golf Mayakoba: Joaquin Niemann to win & each-way @ 14/1

The build-up to the LIV Golf season has been dominated by talk of a PGA Tour merger plus the shock signing of Jon Rahm but it could be Chilean ace Joaquin Niemann who upstages the Spaniard in the opening event at Mayakoba.

Niemann has been playing on the DP World Tour in a desperate bid to qualify for the Majors, winning the Australian Open then finishing fourth at the Dubai Desert Classic two weeks ago, and he should be sharper than most a track where he was fifth in a PGA Tour event in 2022 and 11th on the LIV circuit last season.

LIV Golf Mayakoba: Abraham Ancer to win & each-way @ 20/1

Local man Abraham Ancer will garner plenty of support in Mexico this week and he knows he can contend at Mayakoba having compiled form figures of 9-21-8-12-7-15 on his last six appearances at El Camaleon.

His accurate style is well suited to the track so he can build on a fine finish to the 2023 LIV season in which he placed third, fifth and 11th in the last three strokeplay events.
