Bet on it: Sports gambling effort in California is not over

Voters rejected two ballot measures to legalize sports betting in California. The measure supported by Native American tribes was defeated by 70% of voters. With 5.3 million votes counted Wednesday, more than 80% rejected the measure. Supporters of both measures are reevaluating how to move forward. The campaign in support of online wagering issued a statement saying it remained committed to expanding sports gambling in the Golden State. It's too soon to say whether tribal gaming interests will try to work with the Legislature or go directly to the voters again. They need to talk to their smaller peers and off-track betting operations.
