The former Duke Blue Devil’s rookie contract ended after the 2022 season. Following a superb year-long performance, the Giants inked Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract.

This deal ties Jones for the ninth-largest QB deal in the NFL, matching Matthew Stafford and Dak Prescott.

Time will tell how the 26-year-old plays under a massive deal, as the pressure of being a team’s highest-paid player forces some to crumble. Luckily for Jones, the Giants beefed up its offensive personnel to ensure the QB has all he needs to take another step forward in 2023.

Last season, Danny Dimes threw for a career-high 3,205 yards despite working with one of the worst pass-catching groups in football. New York’s three top receivers combined for 1,644 yards, less than Justin Jefferson and Tyreek Hills’ receiving totals, and narrowly edging out Davante Adams and A.J. Brown.

Jones will have far better offensive weaponry at his disposal this year. The most notable being Darren Waller, who had injury-riddled 2022 and 2021 campaigns, but tallied 1,196 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 2020.

The Giants also used a third-round pick on Tennessee WR Jalin Hyatt, who posted eye-popping numbers for the Volunteers. The South Carolina native caught 67 passes for 1,267 yards (fifth-most in NCAAF) and 15 touchdowns (tied for second-most in NCAAF).

Those monumental additions paired with returning WRs Darius Slayton and Isaiah Hodgins will allow Jones to stretch the field and rack up well over 3,250 passing yards.

Considering Jones’ four-year deal, the Giants will look to utilize him more as a passer than a runner. Daniel is capable of picking up yards with his feet, as his 708 yards were a career-high and the fifth-most among QBs.

However, this leads to an additional risk of injury that won’t be necessary given New York’s plethora of pass-catching weapons. His long-term deal should motivate the G-Men to keep Jones healthy.

With a lackluster WR group in 2022, the North Carolina native tossed 15 touchdowns. He did so in only 16 games, as Jones and other Giants starters rested in Week 18 with a playoff berth already clinched.

Expect the over to cash on both of Jones’ 2023 passing props.

Jones ran for 708 yards a season ago, eclipsing his previous career-high by 285 yards. But Giants fans should expect regression in 2023.

However, this won’t be a negative, as Jones will be expected to drop back and pass more often. This wasn’t a winning game plan in past years given New York’s subpar group of receivers, but it will be this season.
