Betfred Announced As The New Epsom Derby & Oaks Sponsors

Betfred are the new Epsom Derby and Oaks sponsors after agreeing a deal to take over from Cazoo, who had backed the English Classic for the last two years.

Betfred Become The First Bookmaker To Sponsor The Epsom Derby

With Cazoo ending its two year Epsom Derby sponsorship deal after the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Desert Crown won the 2022 race, the Jockey Club-owned course have been looking for a new backer.

However, long-standing UK bookmaker Betfredhave stepped in to support the race for the next three years – meaning this is the first time the Epsom Derby will have a bookmaker sponsoring the fourth English Classic of the season.

Before Cazoo, the Epsom Derby was sponsored by Investec, Vodafone and Ever Ready.

Fred Done, founder of Betfred, said to the Racing Post: “I’m so pleased to announce that Betfred will sponsor the Derby for the next three years. To be associated with a race like this gives me great pride and, for me, the Derby remains the greatest Flat race in the world.”

Betfred have been a big supporter of UK horse racing over the years having backed races like the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Ebor Handicap, plus the Cesaerewitch and Cambridgeshire Handicaps.

The Epsom Oaks, which is run the day before the Derby, is also part of the Betfred deal along with other races over the two-day meeting.

This year’s Epsom Derby will be run on Saturday 3rd June and the Epsom Oaks on Friday 2nd June.

The Current Epsom Derby Favourite Is Auguste Rodin

Trainer Aidan O’Brien has won the Epsom Derby 8 times – the most of any stable – and the Ballydoyle handler has the current 2023 Epsom Derby favourite with Auguste Rodin.

The horse has won three of his four starts, including the Group One Vertum Futurity Trophy at Doncaster last October and is @ 2/1 with the best UK horse racing betting sites.
