Cardinals vs. Twins pick
The Minnesota Twins wrap up their three-game home series against the Arizona Diamondbacks with both teams needing a win to keep up in their respective playoff races.
With D-Backs ace Zac Gallen getting the start this afternoon, BetMGM favors Arizona by 1.5 runs and I like that for the road team. Gallen has been great all year and should have the advantage over Minnesota pitcher Dallas Keuchel.
Gallen comes in with a 3.41 ERA, 149 strikeouts, and a 1.09 WHIP. The right-hander has allowed exactly three earned runs in three of his past four starts, which may not be elite but it’s definitely good enough to give his team a chance to win. Arizona’s bats have been struggling as of late, so expect Gallen to be at his best in the rubber match.
A great antidote to the Diamondbacks’ offensive struggles may be Keuchel. The 35-year-old former Cy Young winner was recently called up from the minors by Minnesota following Joe Ryan’s trip to the IL. Keuchel pitched well in Triple-A but he was awful in 2022 with a 9.20 ERA, a dreadful WHIP of 2.06, and finished with a 2-9 record.
