BetMGM North Carolina Bonus Code & 2024 Launch Updates

Sports betting could launch in North Carolina in time for March Madness and BetMGM Sportsbook is a 1-seed.

The King of Sportsbooks is usually one of the first operators to enter a new market, the most recent one being Kentucky, and North Carolina will be no exception to that rule.

BetMGM leadership announced this past summer during a financial earnings report that they will enter the North Carolina sports betting market.

They followed up on that promise in late December when BetMGM was one of seven operators to apply for a mobile betting license in the Tar Heel State by the Dec. 27 deadline (meaning it can launch on Day 1 of North Carolina mobile sports betting).

BetMGM North Carolina is expected to offer a sleeking mobile app, great live chat for customer service and one of the best North Carolina sportsbook promos when it launches.

Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about BetMGM North Carolina, including what the BetMGM North Carolina bonus code will offer and if there will be a BetMGM NC bonus code for early sign ups.

BetMGM North Carolina Bonus Code At A Glance

The North Carolina State Lottery Commission has stopped accepting sportsbook applications for the time being (applications were due by Dec. 27 for any sportsbook that wanted to launch on the go-live date).

A North Carolina sports betting launch date could be announced near the end of January, which would be music to the ears of Governor Roy Cooper. Cooper appeared on the Ovies & Giglio podcast recently and confirmed that the goal is ‘before March Madness.’

The Jan. 4 North Carolina Sports Betting Committee meeting came and went without a launch date being announced, however, it was stated that in-person betting will be delayed.

The latest North Carolina State Lottery Commission meeting on Jan. 10 also did not produce a launch date announcement, but we now know that operators have until Jan. 26 to get their internal compliance processes in place.

Gov. Cooper reiterated the March Madness goal the day before that meeting while speaking to reporters after a Council of State meeting, per WCNC (Charlotte):

“The idea is to try to get it in place before March Madness. There’s a lot going on at the Lottery Commission to make sure that process goes the right way."

What we know for sure is that BetMGM North Carolina will launch in the Tar Heel State thanks to a recently announced partnership with Charlotte Motor Speedway.

BetMGM has now met a unique part of the HB 347 which states that any operator wanting to do business in the state needs to have a “written designation" with one of the 11 such entities in the state.

There were originally expected to be up to 12 sportsbooks launching before lawmakers changed the licensing structure (now there will only be 11).

That change has been partly responsible for delaying the launch of North Carolina sports betting.

The earliest BetMGM NC and other operators were expected to launch was Jan. 8 (per the original bill), but now the timeline is trending more toward the start of March Madness.

When the time comes, BetMGM is sure to be among the first to offer a pre-launch promo and a terrific BetMGM North Carolina bonus code.

The Game Day’s goal is to provide you with as much information as possible about BetMGM North Carolina and its new user welcome bonus before it launches.

When Will BetMGM North Carolina Launch?

BetMGM announced in July that it will launch in North Carolina when the state begins legal sports betting. The question is ‘When will BetMGM North Carolina launch?’

The answer is becoming clearer based on the current timeline and its pointing to BetMGM North Carolina launching in time for March Madness, which begins on March 19.

North Carolina regulators accepted sports betting license applications until December 27. There will be a 60-day window and then a 30-day extension.

Gov. Roy Cooper has expressed that the goal is to be live prior to the start of March Madness. A date wasn’t announced during the latest North Carolina Sports Betting Committee meeting on Jan. 4, but it was revealed that in-person sports betting will be delayed.

The North Carolina State Lottery met on Jan. 10, but did not announce a launch date. The Lottery said that Jan. 26 is the deadline for operators to get their internal controls (compliance procedures like Know Your Customer checks and Geolocation testing).

That makes Jan. 26 the next date to keep an eye on in terms of a launch date announcement. If it drags on longer, there’s a chance North Carolina sports betting won’t launch for the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament (March 19 is when the First Four tips off in Dayton).

BetMGM is one of seven operators that applied for a mobile betting license, which means it will be able to launch on Day 1.

College betting is permitted under HB 347 and the state of North Carolina is itching to bet on UNC and Duke in the NCAA Tournament for the first time this spring.

Be on the look out for a BetMGM North Carolina pre-registration promo sometime in February if this timeline holds.

BetMGM always offers one of the best early-sign up sportsbook promos in the industry. This is usually $100 in bonus bets just for creating an account. If this is the case, the bonus bets will be available when BetMGM North Carolina launches.

We will know more after the next North Carolina State Lottery Commission meets on Jan. 10. Keep this page bookmarked for updates.

Pros & Cons of BetMGM North Carolina

BetMGM North Carolina Bonus Code vs. NC Competitors

The BetMGM North Carolina bonus code is expected to offer a $1,500 first-bet bonus. How do we think this will compare to the expected offers from competitors? The answer is fairly well.

Caesars North Carolina is likely to offer a $1K first-bet bonus, while DraftKings North Carolina will likely offer $200 in bonus bets for a $5 wager (FanDuel North Carolina is expected to mimic this offer).

Meanwhile, bet365 North Carolina might offer its customary launch promo of Bet $1, Get $365 in bonus bets.

It remains to be seen what ESPN BET North Carolina and Fanatics Sportsbook North Carolina offer, but both are currently offering new users some variation of a Bet & Get promo.

Each of these promos have their pros and cons. If you’re a new bettor, you’ll probably go for a low-risk, Bet & Get offer.

More seasoned bettors with bigger bankrolls might drift toward the BetMGM North Carolina bonus code, which is ideal for taking a shot on a big moneyline underdog because you’ll still get bonus bets if you lose.

Our Expert Take on BetMGM North Carolina

BetMGM North Carolina isn’t live yet, but we have enough of an idea to give you a good rundown and opinion.

We’ve tried out the BetMGM Sportsbook app (the Massachusetts version) and our initial takeaway is it’s a very aesthetically pleasing betting app.

The white background is easy on the eyes and the odds are easy to read despite not much of a contrast (think DraftKings’ black-green-white layout).

We noticed that when using an iPhone 13 Pro, you’re able to see about 4 game odds on your screen at a time (this is on par with most competitors).

The one gripe we have is that it took a bit for the bonus bets to show up when we signed up in Massachusetts (there was a message about delays during launch).

The odds are typically in line with competitors, but where BetMGM North Carolina separates itself is the sheer amount of odds boosts and its live-chat customer service, which we found to be very responsive.

The BetMGM Rewards program is a boon for bettors with a large bankroll and separates BetMGM NC from the likes of FanDuel NC (no rewards program) and DraftKings NC (slimmed down rewards).
