Betting Week in Review 12/9/2022

It's been a challenging week for British bookmakers after most sporting events were cancelled in Britain due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The week had started well with shock results involving British teams in Europe, including a 4-1 hammering for Liverpool.

Liverpool lost 4-1 to Napoli in their first Group A game. Piotr Zielinski, Andre-Frank Anguissa, Giovanni Simeone and Luis Diaz scored for the away side. Liverpool plays Ajax this week. The Reds are 1/2 to win the game and Ajax are 15/4. The draw is 9/10. It's a draw. They won the Champions League in 2005 on penalties. In 2005, Liverpool came back from 3-0 down at half-time to beat Istanbul. Bookies are pricing Liverpool at 1-2 for their game with Ajax.

Rangers were soundly beaten 4-0 by Ajax in their return to the Champions League. The defeat came days after a 4,0 thrashing by their rivals Celtic. Rangers fans had hoped for an upset due to many of their stars having left the club. They now face Napoli and Liverpool.   The team's last win in the competition came against Manchester United. It was a surprise result for the bookmakers.

Chelsea lost 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb. Manchester United lost their Europa League opener to Méndez. Celtic fought bravely in their clash with the European champions Real Madrid. Richarlison scored twice for Tottenham in a 2-1 win over Marseille. Erling Haaland scored on his Champions League debut for Manchester City. Arsenal won 2,1 against Zürich. West Ham won 3-2 against FCSB.  Andrei Cordea had given the visitors the lead after 34 minutes.
