Blazers vs. Nuggets NBA expert prediction and odds for Sunday, Feb. 4 (Can Denver cov

The Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets face off for the second time in as many games on Sunday afternoon, and Denver is looking to build off a double-digit win against Portland last time out. 

Denver is just half a game back of the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, and with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Clippers, and Oklahoma City Thunder all playing today, Denver would love to get a win to at least keep pace in the West. 

The Blazers are in a tough spot as 14-point underdogs, as the team is just 6-21 straight up and 13-14 against the spread on the road this season.

Denver is one of the best home teams in the NBA – posting a 20-4 straight up record.

Anfernee Simons: Simons had a big game against Denver on Friday night, scoring 29 points while shooting 11-for-23 from the field. If Jerami Grant is sidelined again, Simons will take on a major load in the offense for Portland. This season, the young guard is averaging 23.1 points and 5.1 assists per game. 

Denver Nuggets

Nikola Jokic: On Friday night, Jokic put together one of his best games of the season, scoring 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting to go with 22 rebounds (a season-high) and 12 assists. The Blazers simply didn’t have an answer for The Joker, and I don't imagine they will on Sunday either. 

I have a hard time betting on Portland in this spot given the team’s average play on the road this season from an against the spread perspective. 

Denver has blown out teams as a home favorite, posting an average margin of victory of 9.7 points per game despite going just 12-11-1 against the spread in those contests. 

The Nuggets should control the glass in this game, and they outrebounded the Blazers by 11 on Friday night. While Denver lost the turnover battle in that game, the Nuggets could completely shift this matchup if they win that tonight. 

If Grant sits, I don’t see the Blazers having the offense to compete on the road against a title contender.
