Blue Jays same-game parlay predictions vs. Red Sox Sept. 16: Bet on Springer, Turner to record hits

The Toronto Blue Jays resume their playoff chase today at Rogers Centre against the Boston Red Sox.

The pregame narrative: Toronto is a half-game back of the Seattle Mariners in the AL's wild-card race with 14 games to go. Chris Bassitt pitches opposite Chris Sale today and we're taking Boston to cover as run-line underdogs while backing two batters to record a hit.

MLB oddsas of 9:15 a.m. on 09/16/2023.

Blue Jays same-game parlay picks

Parlay: Red Sox +1.5 + Springer over 0.5 hits + Turner over 0.5 hits (+185)

Red Sox +1.5 (-220): Toronto picked up a 3-0 win on Friday thanks to a gem from Jose Berrios and a home run from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. But we're not going to forget what the team did the four games prior. The Jays looked lifeless when it mattered most and got swept by the Texas Rangers, being outscored 35-9 in those games.

Even in last night's win, Toronto only managed four hits. It has scored three or fewer runs in four straight games and you're not going to cover this spread often hitting like that.

The Jays are also 4-7 against the Red Sox and 13-25 against AL East opponents this year. And they're just 25-40 as a run-line favourite at home.

Other parlay picks

Springer over 0.5 hits (-250): George Springer was one of six Blue Jays held hitless last night but we're confident he'll rebound against Sale. Toronto's outfielder has seen the lefty plenty and is 7-for-25 against him with a double and a home run.

Sale also hasn't been inspiring since returning from injury on Aug. 11. He's given up 24 hits in 27.2 innings with a 5.53 ERA and 4.38 FIP.

He can still make batters swing and miss, but we're happy to back Springer despite his recent struggles.

Turner over 0.5 hits (-286): Justin Turner just keeps on producing no matter where he's at. The 38-year-old is slashing .285/.355/.478 this season and has a hit in six of his last seven games.

He doesn't have an extensive history against Bassitt but has dominated that matchup when the pair meet.

Turner is 6-for-10 against Toronto's righty with two doubles and just one strikeout. He should be putting the ball in play today.
