St. Louis Looking for Revenge

The St. Louis Blues’ two-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday when they lost to the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout. It was a much-needed victory for Detroit, who had been reeling as of late.

In case you missed the NHL news, the Red Wings had lost three straight games and 10 out of their last 12 before getting back on the board. Will they have what it takes to do it again, just two nights later, against the same team?

Which Goalie Will Blues Go With?

In their loss to the Red Wings, the Blues were rolling with Joel Hofer, who has been shining in net for them. Hofer was making his third start for the team since being called up from the AHL the week prior.

Starter Jordan Binnington was serving a two-game suspension, but Hofer played well and earned another start. Those who bet online saw him make 27 saves while allowing just two goals. So maybe he’ll be back in net here.

The Blues have little to gain from starting Binnington, who has played poorly this season. Hofer gives them a reason to get up for these games.

If it is Binnington or Thomas Greiss, downgrade the Blues in the sportsbook. Hofer has been surprisingly reliable, even though it’s such a small sample size. Binnington has been mediocre, with a .892 save percentage and a 3.39 GAA.

Joel Hofer (who is making his 1st NHL start this season) has a mesmerizing warmup routine. So much speed and control.

Red Wings Likely Turning Back to Husso

The Red Wings have also had some goaltending questions to answer. Ville Husso had been struggling for the last month, so the team went with Magnus Hellberg on Tuesday. He got the win, but will he be back in net again?

Husso got some much-needed rest, but are the Red Wings going back to him? He has a .899 save percentage on the season and a .867 save percentage this month.

As the regular season winds down, Detroit is nine points out of a playoff spot. If you’re looking at the NHL betting odds, consider that they still have something to play for, but they’re a real longshot to get to the playoffs and would need to leapfrog five other teams to get there.

Blues vs Red Wings Picks & Prediction

Goaltending will tell the story on the NHL lines here. If we see something like Husso and Binnington, over is the play, as both goalies have been unreliable. If it’s again Hellberg and Hofer, under is the play that makes sense.

Check who is starting in net before making your NHL picks in this one.
