Bogaerts' grand slam backs Wacha, Red Sox beat Twins 6-5
Xander Bogaerts hit a grand slam and drove in five runs. J.D. Martinez also homered and the Red Sox won 6-5. Boston had lost three games in a row. Minnesota had won four straight games. The Twins lost for the first time in six games but didn't lose any ground in the AL Central. Cleveland lost 4-0 to Baltimore. The Red Sox are eight games back of Toronto for a wild-card spot. They had also lost seven of nine games before Wednesday. It's an uphill battle for them. they won 20 out of 29 games at one point during the season.
Minnesota claimed LHP Austin Davis off waivers from Boston before the game. Davis was 2-1 with a 5.47 ERA in 50 games for the Red Sox this season. He will likely join the active roster on Thursday.
Nathan Eovaldi is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday. Jorge Polanco missed his fourth straight game with a knee injury. Minnesota starts a road swing on Friday with the first of three games against the White Sox.
