Boston Celtics NBA championship odds following Jaylen Brown contract extension

Jaylen Brown isn’t going anywhere.

The Boston Celtics reportedly agreed to a five-year, $304 million supermax contract to keep Brown in Boston. The All-NBA wing was entering the final season of his deal in the 2023-24 campaign, but now he’s tied to Boston for the next six seasons.

This is a huge move for the Celtics, who are one of the favorites to win the NBA Finals. Following the completion of Summer League, Boston was second in the odds to win it all this season.

Boston has made the Eastern Conference Finals in three of the last four seasons, making the NBA Finals in the 2021-22 campaign.

However, the team may have its best chance to win a title next season after adding big man Kristaps Porzingis in a trade this offseason.

With Brown and Jayson Tatum locked in together as a duo for several more seasons, Boston’s championship window is alive and well. At +500, the team is only behind the Denver Nuggets and is the favorite to win the Eastern Conference.

A two-time All-Star, Brown is one of the better players in the NBA, earning All-NBA Second Team honors last season.

Boston’s NBA title outlook for the 2023-24 season is much more set in stone with Brown’s extension, as bettors won’t have to worry about the team moving him at the deadline.

If Brown was on a one-year deal and couldn’t come to terms on an extension with Boston, the team may have been forced to try to move him rather than lose him for nothing in free agency next offseason.

That is no longer an issue.

Brown averaged 26.6 points per game last season while shooting 49.1 percent from the field and 33.5 percent from beyond the arc. He’s been an All-Star in two of the last three seasons and should help Boston compete for a top spot in the East again this season.
