Brad Cox's "Wet Paint" Wins the Coaching Club American Oaks

Albany, NY (WRGB) — Another stakes race down, another nailbiter finish at the track.

Week two at the Saratoga Race Course coming to a close on Sunday, but on Saturday, we had the biggest race of the week: The 107th running of Grade One Coaching Club American Oaks.

Five horses fighting for the $500,000 purse, and you couldn't have asked for a more exciting ending.

The bugler letting the thousands in attendance know the race they've all been waiting for is just moments away.

And once the horses bursted out of the gates, we were in a neck-and-neck race until the final turn. Down the stretch we went, the three horse, "Sacred Wish" in the lead, but here came the number two, "Wet Paint", down the outside. The 7/5 odds horse pulling it out at the last second. "Wet Paint", rode by Flavien Prat winning the Oaks.

Trainer Brad Cox was very happy with the win, saying his horse always finds a way to pull it off.

She had her momentum going forward, she was on the outside, and I kind of thought she had a shot to get there in the last bit, the last 16th. At the 8th pole, I was a little concerned and even Flavien said he was as well.
This is her thing, in regards to coming out and flopping out of the gate, having her find her way, and finishing up. I told Flavien today to ride her like a turf horse.

And with this win, Cox went on to say putting "Wet Paint" in this year's Alabama now may be in his team's plans.

Next week's featured races at the track include the Jim Dandy and the Vanderbilt.
