Brentford Top Six Odds Drop to 11/1 as Toney Fires Bees to Victory

Brentford top six odds have jumped from 14/1 to 11/1 as they took another step towards European football in midweek, sweeping side relegation-threatened Southampton.

Ivan Toney is due a lengthy spell on the sidelines after being found to be in breach of gambling guidelines, but his contribution until then has shown little signs of slowing down.

Only behind to Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in the Premier League scoring charts, Toney notched in with his 15th goal of the season while also setting up Yoane Wissa in the dying embers of the game, as a desperate Southampton attempted to salvage a point in their race for survival.

It now means Thomas Frank’s side move within a point of the top six, and in doing so bounced back from the disappointing 1-0 defeat to Everton last weekend which put an end to an unbeaten streak going back to before the World Cup.

The Bees have never featured in European competition, and Frank recently admitted his band of high achievers are ‘dreaming’ of reaching another staggering club milestone, which would be made all the more impressive when you take into account they were in the fourth tier 15 years ago.

With another seemingly winnable game on the horizon against Leicester on Saturday afternoon, Brentford’s top six odds and hopes of European away days currently stand at 11/1 after being slashed from their price of two weeks ago, 14/1.

As for Southampton, their position at the foot of the table is confirmed for another game week as they struggled to capitalise on their positive result against Manchester United last time out. Despite dominating possession with 67% of the ball, they registered just one shot on target, which is indicative of their league low of 20 goals so far this season.
