Brewers vs. Rockies prediction and odds for Tuesday, May 2 (Milwaukee looks good.. for now)
It was a good end to a bad month for the Colorado Rockies when they beat the Diamondbacks 12-4 on Sunday, but they enter this first series in May against the Milwaukee Brewers at 9-20. That record is good for last in the NL West while the Brewers are second in the Central at 18-10. Milwaukee is a game and a half back of Pittsburgh in their division, but they have a chance to make up ground on the Pirates with this series against the lowly Rockies.
Today it’ll be Freddy Peralta and Ryan Feltner on the mound for Game 1 of this series. Peralta is 3-2 for Milwaukee with a 3.77 ERA and Feltner is 2-2 for Colorado and has a 4.68 ERA.
Despite their strong record, Milwaukee doesn’t really have anyone setting the world on fire in their lineup. Rowdy Tellez leads the way in OPS at .886 and he has eight home runs, but other than that not much stands out for the 18th ranked offense in OPS and runs scored. However, their pitching staff has been carrying the team.
They are third in ERA at 3.41 as a staff, though somehow they are 27th in strikeouts. That could mean there is some regression coming to their staff because it’s not often a great staff ranks 19th in K/BB ratio. I’m not sure how reliable of a team Milwaukee will be going forward because I don’t know what to rely on.
However, I do think that they can rely on Freddy Peralta who has a 3.18 FIP with 31 strikeouts to nine walks. He had two shaky starts in the middle of April, but last time out he went 6.0 innings and only gave up two earned with eight strikeouts and no walks.
With Peralta pitching, I like the Brewers to win tonight, but I have some real questions about them going forward.
