Brighton vs Bournemouth predictions: Expect a stalemate on the seaside

Having made their Europa League debut against AEK Athens on Thursday, Brighton must quickly turn their attention back to Premier League duties on Sunday when they welcome Bournemouth to the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls have made a bright start to the season, posting four wins in their opening five games, but Bournemouth have been awkward customers recently, taking points off Brentford and Chelsea.

Pascal Gross is a fitness doubt for Brighton after picking up a muscular injury on Thursday in the Europa League, while Lewis Dunk, Evan Ferguson and James Milner will all be assessed.

Tyler Adams and Alex Scott remain sidelined for the visiting Cherries.

Unfortunately, though, things did not go according to plan for Brighton, who fell 1-0 down and then 2-1 behind within the first half.

Joao Pedro's second penalty of the match after 67 minutes levelled the scores again but an 84th minute strike from Ezequiel Ponce handed the Greek visitors all three points.

Brighton were not helped by some poor refereeing on Thursday and will have the chance to pick themselves up in the Europa League but they may not be on top form on Sunday after that frustrating loss.

For most of these players this is a first experience of playing on a Thursday night and following it up with a Premier League game at the weekend and Bournemouth could take a point off their south coast counterparts.

It is also worth noting hosts Brighton could be without a handful of key players for this contest such as Gross and Ferguson and De Zerbi is expected to make a number of changes, which should only play into the hands of the visitors.

The Cherries are still searching for their first Premier League win under Andoni Iraola but that does not mean results have been poor.

Their first five games have yielded three draws, including against Brentford and Chelsea either side of the international break, and they can share the spoils again this weekend.
