Brooklyn Nets vs. Houston Rockets Prediction, Preview, and Odds

The Brooklyn Nets are traveling to the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas to face the Houston Rockets. Brooklyn is 15-19 and sits ninth in the Eastern Conference. Houston is ninth in the Western Conference and has a record of 16-15. Last season Brooklyn won both of their games against the Rockets. The game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST.

Brooklyn Falling Apart Defensively

The Brooklyn Nets are heading to Houston after an embarrassing loss to the New Orlean Pelicans that resulted in a final score of 85-112. This would be the fourth loss in a row for the Nets. Brooklyn has been struggling this season on defense and as a result has led to losses when their offense cannot bail them out. The Nets are averaging 116.2 points allowed per game this season. To start with their issues on defense, we are seeing Brooklyn ranked 22nd on defensive rebounding. The Nets have been allowing most of their points on defense at the three point line where their opponents are averaging 14.1 three pointers per game.

On offense the Nets have played slightly better but still do not produce enough to points to match their defensive issues. Brooklyn is averaging 114.7 points per game this season. While they are struggling to rebound the ball on defense, they rank fourth overall in offensive rebounds. Most of their point production on offense is coming from the three point line as the Nets rank eighth in three pointers per game. The Nets aren't great at shooting field goals with a field goal shooting percentage of 46% but make up for it with them ranking third in field goal attempts per game.

Rockets' Top Defense

The Houston Rockets are hosting the Nets after a win against Detroit on Monday that resulted in a final score of 136-113. This would be the first win for the Rockets in their last four games. Despite these losses the Rockets still retain the third ranked defense in the NBA allowing only 109.8 points per game. Their defense has been carrying their team to wins this season due to their lack of offense. On defense we are seeing Houston shut down the oppositions shooting percentages as they rank number on in opponent three pointer shooting percentage and third in field goal shooting percentage. With that has resulted in them placing number one in field goals allowed per game and seventh in three pointers made per game.

Where the Rockets have issues is their offense that is ranked 20th in the league in points per game at 113.1. Like I said, the Rockets are relying on their defense in almost all of their games. Houston does not have any good stats on offense but also does not have that many terrible ones. What Houston is struggling at is their shooting around the paint. The Rockets are 22nd in field goal shooting percentage, attempts, and made this season.

Rating:

The Brooklyn Nets are struggling on both offense and defense in their most recent games. In the last three games for the Nets they have averaged only 99 points per game. In Houston's last three games they are averaging 125.3 points per game. While I think Brooklyn will attempt to play better than they did yesterday against the Pelicans, Houston's defense should be able to handle the Nets with relative ease.

I am siding with the Rockets and laying the points at -6.5.

Prediction: Houston Rockets -6.5 ( -112 )

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

Personally I had the over in the game yesterday with the Pelicans. Cam Thomas had probably his worst game of the year for the Nets as their top point producer on the team. I am expecting the offense to attempt to make a come back in this game but due to it being a back to back match, they are going to be tired. That aside, if we just take their averages on offense and defense on the season, last three games, and home/away we get a projected total of 229. When we factor in the average pace of the two teams which is 102.3 possessions, we get a final projected score of 234.

I am taking the over at 222.

Prediction: Over 222 (-110 )
