Browns Cade York: Development or Disappointment?

Phil Dawson was a dependable kicker for the Cleveland Browns. Lou Groza remains the franchise leader in scoring with 1,608 points. The Browns traded a lot of draft picks in the Deshaun Watson trade. They took Cade York at pick 124. Cades was the first specialist off the board. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and Second Team All -SEC. He scored 326 points during his college football days. His average of making 81.8% of career field goal attempts was misleading. In his final two seasons, he scored 326. points and was considered the best kicker in college.

The team is excited about the players they have added to the roster this off-season.

York was the darling of Browns training camp. He was voted the 2022 Maurice Bassett Award winner as the team's most outstanding rookie in training. In the first game against the Carolina Panthers, York made his first kick, an extra point after a one-yard Kareem Hunt touchdown. York also made a field goal, a 34- yarder and a 36-yards with 6 minutes to play. With 1:13 left, he made the game-winning 58- yards field-goal.

Cade York was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 1. He is the first Browns player to win the award since P Jamie Gillian in 2019.

"That is a rare performance for a rookie. Pretty unprecedented for him to go do that. Just going to continue to grow with him."

Cleveland is an analytics team. The team goes for it on fourth down near midfield more often than a long field goal or punt.

The 2021 season will be remembered for how many times the Browns moved into enemy territory only to have the drive stall and try a fourth-and-whatever.

Cade York is a kicker for the Cleveland Browns. He is 4-4 in PATs, but only 2-0 in field goals. In his freshman year at LSU, he missed six field goal attempts and 5 PAT. His focus was to never miss an extra point again. However, in his second-ever NFL game, York sent wide anextra point. The following game against Pittsburgh, the lost point did not result in a loss. A much wider crack began to form in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

After the loss to Los Angeles, special teams coach Mike Priefer asked if York is too big for the NFL. He is paid to make field goals and win games. The position is one of the most traveled in the league. Cleveland is currently 4-7-0. If the team won all the games, the standings would indicate a 7-4-1 record. The team lost to the Jets by one, by two, and by Baltimore by 2 points. It is a team game with missed tackles, overthrown passes, blown assignments, missed blocks, bad routes and clogged running lanes. With the return of Watson, it would be 7.4.

Cade York kicked the ball well Wednesday.

Cade York missed a 39-yard field goal against Tampa Bay. The kick went into the stands. The Browns won the game. NFL.com wrote a headline “Cades 39 yard field-goal attempt couldn't be more off”. It was exactly four seats, then an aisle, 10 seats and then into a second aisle over past the left upright.

"He is not losing confidence in himself. We will be counting on him next week and the week after"

Cade York is a rookie kicker for the Browns. He is 17 of 23 on field goals so far. Bojorquez spends a lot of time with York. As a freshman at LSU, York missed six kicks. Dawson had a 66.7% success rate in his rookie season.
