Bruce Cassidy and Jack Eichel plan to bring Stanley Cup to Massachusetts

While the Boston Bruins playoff run was cut short, the Stanley Cup will be in Massachusetts in July.

Bruce Cassidy, former Bruins and current Las Vegas Golden Knights coach, will have one public appearance with the trophy. On July 13, Cassidy and his family will bring the Stanley Cup to Milton to help launch the Cassidy Murray Foundation.

Cassidy Murray was a 13-year-old who passed away tragically in Aruba last year after being struck by a boat pulling both her and her father on a water tube. After the accident, Cassidy hosted her family at TD Garden to give the family a Bruins jersey with Murray’s name and favorite number.

“Cassidy Murray would have been with our family celebrating this summer had life not taken such a cruel and terrible twist,” Cassidy said in a press release. “We cannot think of a better way to honor this beautiful girl and her parents’ noble commitment to other than by coming to Boston to bring attention to the foundation in her name.”

The family will use the attention brought by the Stanley Cup appearance to consult with mental health experts to understand how their foundation can help with grieving after a loss.

Cassidy will be bringing the Stanley Cup to Cape Cod, where he continues to summer despite departing from Boston, but it will not be a public appearance.

Cassidy will not be the only one bringing the Stanley Cup to Massachusetts.

North Chelmsford native and former Boston University player Jack Eichel will take the Stanley Cup to his hometown. He will make an appearance at the Skate 3 arena in Tyngsboro on July 14, from 10 a.m. to noon, according to Barry Scanlon. Eichel grew up playing at Skate 3.
