Bruins vs Oilers Picks, Predictions, and Odds Tonight

Boston has been unstoppable up to this point and will look to make it seven straight wins when it faces Edmonton. With that said, our NHL betting picks believe the B's are due for regression and the Oilers will pull out the underdog victory.

In perhaps the most exciting game on Monday night’s slate, the Pacific Division’s Edmonton Oilers host the Atlantic Division’s Boston Bruins. Edmonton typically fares well in this matchup, winning nine of the last 13 meetings between these two clubs.

Will it pull off the upset on home ice, or can Boston extend its win streak to seven games? Find out in our free NHL picks and predictions for the Bruins vs Oilers on Monday, February 27.

Bruins vs Oilers best odds

Bruins vs Oilers picks and predictions

The Boston Bruins continue to dominate the NHL, winning each of their last six games to bring their season record up to a league-best 45-8-5. However, this club is due for some regression.

At 5-on-5, Boston ranks second in the league in goals for per 60 minutes (GF/60) but 12th in xGF/60. Defensively, this team ranks first in the league in goals against per 60 minutes (GA/60) but third in xGA/60.

While those underlying metrics are still obviously tremendous, the Edmonton Oilers’ underlying metrics are just as good, severely due for positive regression. At 5-on-5, Edmonton ranks seventh in the league in GF/60 but third in xGF/60.

Defensively, the Oilers rank 21st in the league in GA/60 but 12th in xGA/60. The Bruins’ biggest advantage in this contest is in net, although the gap is arguably not as large as most people would believe.

Slated to start between the pipes for Boston is Vezina Trophy favorite Linus Ullmark. Fresh off a game where Ullmark scored the ever-rare goalie goal, he looks to build upon his 30-4-1 record.

Accompanying that record is a stellar .938 SV% and 1.86 GAA, both of which lead the league. Among starting goaltenders, Ullmark ranks first in goals saved above expected per 60 minutes (GSAx/60) at 5-on-5.

Across the ice, goaltender Stuart Skinner is projected to start in the crease for Edmonton. Through 33 appearances between the pipes this season, Skinner boasts a less-impressive but strong .912 SV% and 2.90 GAA.

At 5-on-5, he ranks third among starting goaltenders in GSAx/60, just two spots behind Ullmark. These two clubs are closer in talent level than their records indicate, and catching Edmonton on home ice at plus money is too good to pass up.

Bruins vs Oilers moneyline analysis

It's hard to imagine a McDavid-led team listed as an underdog on home ice, but that just shows how dominant this Bruins team has been. Edmonton is +114 on the moneyline with the B's returning as -136 favorites.

Going against the high-powered Oilers offense is an extremely difficult task, and Ullmark’s track record proves just that. Across six career appearances against Edmonton, he possesses a .893 SV% and 3.23 GAA.

Meanwhile, in Skinner’s lone career start against the Bruins, he stopped 27 of 30 pucks for a .900 SV%. While Boston is the superior team, it is due for regression while Edmonton is due for positive regression, plus we are catching the Oilers at plus money on home ice.

Bruins vs Oilers Over/Under analysis

Overs have been the name of the game for Edmonton this season, but the line of 6.5 is actually seeing plus money for these teams to surpass this total. That is most likely to do with the likelihood Ullmark is between the pipes, along with Boston's 24-29-5 record toward the Under.

These two clubs possess contrasting styles, which does not make me feel confident about the total one way or the other. The Oilers love to play fast and go south-to-north as quickly as possible, which is a big reason why the Over is 37-18-5 for them this season.

On the flip side, the Bruins like to slow the game down and are more methodical in their systems and puck movement. Add in elite defense and goaltending, it's easy to see why this team has seen so many Unders.
