The wait is finally over and the Premier League returns on Friday with newly-promoted Burnley taking on Manchester City. We’re pleased to have punting guru Tipster Wizard on board for another season and he’s previewed the action and provided two tips that he likes the look of.
Fresh after winning the Championship last season, Vincent Kompany will be taking on his former side Manchester City in a eagerly awaited Premier League clash. Things are looking on the up for Burnley as they have strengthened their squad by bringing in the likes of Amdouni from Basel, goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City, Jordan Byer from Borussia Monchengladbach and Michael Obafemi from Swansea just to name a few.
Burnley did not look at their best during the pre-season as they could only manage one win, one draw and two losses from the four games they played. However the 2-0 win against Benfica was certainly encouraging and the new signings are likely to gel in and build chemistry as the season starts. As for Manchester City, after a historic last season where they managed to win the treble, they have lost two of their important players Gundogan and Mahrez, but have brought in the likes of Kovacic and Gvardiol and are still in the market for an attacking midfielder.
City were minutes away from winning the Community Shield at the weekend but Arsenal equalised in injury time through a deflected Trossard strike and clinched the trophy on penalties. The last time Manchester City faced Burnley at Turf Moor was in 2022 with City coming away with a 2-0 win.
Pep’s side have won their last 11 consecutive meetings against Burnley in all competitions and will be eager to start off with another three points on Friday. As for Burnley, they will be hoping the home fans can push them on and help them in pulling off an unlikely upset.

Erling Haaland to score anytime
Erling Haaland holds the record for most goals in a Premier league season after he scored 36 goals in 2022/23 for Manchester City. He scored a brace in the opening game 12 months ago against West Ham away from home and should get plenty of chances here against a newly promoted Burnley side.
This bet was priced around the 1/2 mark towards the end of last season so there is value to be had here. Considering he will also be on penalties, 8/11 for him to get on the scoresheet deserves to be our main bet for this game with a 1pt stake.
Connor Roberts to be carded
Burnley right-back Connor Roberts will have the tough task of going up against Jack Grealish who was drawing over three fouls per game last season. At 13/4, it is worth backing him to get carded on the opening game of the season so we’ll take that as our second bet for this game with a small 0.25pt stake.
