Selection Sunday is less than a month away, meaning it’s almost time to fill out your March Madness brackets. Time and time again, March Madness proves to be one of the most-bet-on events each year.

As you can see, the defending champion UConn Huskies are favored to cut down the nets for the second consecutive year, and rightfully so. The Huskies have separated themselves from the rest of the pack in college basketball.

After that, things become more cluttered. Three of the remaining four favorites to win the tournament are accustomed to early exits in March. Only Houston has seen consistent success in March Madness, reaching the Sweet 16 in each of the past four tournaments.

We’re staying away from Purdue, Arizona and Tennessee here. Looking for a couple of bets outside of the top five? We like the following squads heading into March: Alabama, Kentucky and Marquette.

As expected, the top five teams predicted to make the Final Four are the same as the five listed to cut down the nets in Phoenix.

Of note, Purdue hasn’t made a Final Four since 1980, while Tennessee has never made it that far in March. Furthermore, Purdue big-man Zach Edey has made strides defensively, but his teams have underperformed mightily in March each of the last three years.

We like top seeds UConn and Houston to reach the Final Four, alongside Alabama and Kentucky. Don’t count the San Diego State Aztecs out of the either as a smart futures bet.

This is a three-team race, with North Carolina and Duke holding one-game leads over Virginia. UNC has to play both teams away from home, which could spell trouble. Meanwhile, Duke gets both opponents at home, leading us to pick them to win the ACC.

Houston and Iowa State possess three losses in the Big 12, with Baylor at four and Kansas at five. The Cougars get both Iowa State and Kansas at home, but they travel to Baylor still. Nonetheless, we’re taking Houston.

The Crimson Tide own a one-game lead over Tennessee, and two-game leads over Auburn, Kentucky and South Carolina. Bama gets Tennessee and Florida at home, but Kentucky on the road. Still, we see the Crimson Tide as the best team in the SEC at the moment and we’re beating them on the top Michigan sportsbooks.
